The Valley Mist Approach
At Valley Mist, beeswax is one of the key ingredients in our original natural lip balm.
We use it for one simple reason: it is a natural, effective way to protect and nourish the skin without unnecessary additives.
What Is Beeswax and Why Do We Use It?
Beeswax is a natural substance produced by honeybees to build and maintain the structure of the hive.
In skincare, it is valued for its ability to:
- help protect the skin barrier
- lock in moisture
- create a smooth, breathable finish
Unlike synthetic alternatives, beeswax is naturally functional and requires minimal processing.
Our Approach to Beeswax Sourcing
From the beginning, Valley Mist has taken a thoughtful approach to sourcing beeswax.
Our early experience working with British hives in a nature-rich environment shaped our philosophy:
to respect the natural behaviour of bees and avoid unnecessary interference.
Today, we source beeswax from trusted UK and European based suppliers.
Respecting the Hive
A healthy hive works as a balanced system, with each bee playing a role.
Worker bees produce wax, gather nectar and maintain the hive.
Drones — the male bees — have a more specialised role within the colony and contribute in their own, quieter way.
We believe in allowing bees to live as naturally as possible, with minimal disruption and careful harvesting practices.
Why This Matters in Skincare
For us, ingredient choice is about more than function.
Using beeswax reflects our wider approach:
- simple formulations
- minimal processing
- working with nature, not against it
This is why beeswax remains a key part of our original lip balm.
A Thoughtful Choice
We understand that not everyone chooses to use beeswax, which is why we also offer a vegan lip balm alternative.
Both options are created with the same intention:
to offer gentle, effective skincare with clarity and care.
